See All ReviewsSo my wife and I finally made it this restaurant… drove down from Ottawa… and we were NOT disappointed. The atmosphere is very homey and the reggae music is soothing from the first moments inside. The walls are a friendly yellow and there is combination of Thai and Caribbean decor. There aren’t many tables but everything is well spaced out. We were kindly seated within a few moments and took a look at the double-sided menu, one Thai and one Jamaican. We have plenty of good Thai restaurants in Ottawa so we both opted for the Caribbean side. The customer service from the proprietor was fantastic. My wife was hesitant about the spiciness of the jerk chicken and a rather generous piece was brought out to sample.. completely gratis. How kind! I ordered the plantains as an appetizer and we were delighted by the presentation, flavours, and the delicious green sauce in the centre. Do yourself a favour… sample at least one of the unique soda flavours available… I’m not much of a soda drinker and I was stunned by how different the soda tasted from typical coke or Pepsi products. As far as the food, I ordered the fried chicken Jamaican style with fries. It came with a kind of sweet gravy and bowl of coleslaw. It was very crispy and NOT oily. My wife ordered the jerk chicken (low spice level). It came with rice, plantains and cucumber with a piece of festival corn bread. The portion sizes were huge… especially compared to most restaurants these days. The prices were also very reasonable. We had a feast for under $50 before taxes and tip! Finally, the chef and owner was extremely personable and we had many good natured exchanges. I could tell he had a real passion for what he does and appreciates others who recognize the quality of the food and how it is served. I look forward to our next trip to Cornwall this summer… thanks Spicy Pearl! You made our weekend special… for less than $50… still shaking my head in disbelief. Sorry i only have one photo… we were too hungry to stop and take pics of the mains.
Passing through ottawa for work and found this place by chance but I was really happy I did. Tried pretty much every dish on the menu and could not give you a favorite. They are all amazing. The taste brings back memories of the Caribbean with everything they do being hand made from scratch. Thank you Roger for the awesome food and conversation!
Took my friend’s mom out for her birthday. It was our first experience with this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious true authentic Caribbean and Thai food. We had the red snapper, stewed chicken, and soup that is only available on certain days that was absolutely delicious 😋 I recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic made from scratch Caribbean and Thai cuisine. The owners were very pleasant, great conversation with them. The atmosphere was so pleasant, and very clean. Thank you for such a great first time experience. I will be back.
